We are so excited to have James Murphy back for his 7th visit to Bend! James began practicing yoga in 1988 and has taught since 1990. He has made numerous extended trips to India to study with B.K.S. Iyengar, Prashant and Geeta Iyengar. Describing his experiences in classes in India, James says, “Besides gaining invaluable insights into the physical aspects of yoga, I observed how Mr. Iyengar worked on a psychological level to challenge students to go beyond their limits.”
James teaches a full range of classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institutes of New York and Brooklyn, including a class for those living with HIV/AIDS. He also does mentoring and training in the Institute’s teacher training program. Longtime Director of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater NY, James continues to provide a strong leadership role in the region. A yoga practitioner of unusual integration and ability, James is featured in the Yoga Journal book, Yoga, has appeared in the Yoga Journal calendar, and has been interviewed for numerous articles in national magazines. In addition to his study of yoga, James is keenly interested in people and cultures around the world. Providing yoga study and experiences in people-to-people understanding, James leads groups to such fascinating places as Cambodia, Bali, and Turkey through Yoga Out There.
Through rhythm and sequencing, James creates an experience of integration in his classes that is sensitive to the subtler aspects of the practice. His keen perception and skill in observation combine with a natural talent for teaching to make his classes rich and exhilarating. His depth of knowledge and playfulness make for a challenging yet light-hearted workshop experience.
An Iyengar Yoga workshop offers the conditions to have a consolidated learning experience of Yoga. Each session builds on what was learned prior with central themes or actions threaded and repeating through the various poses. Intentional, skillful sequencing of the poses creates an opportunity for real understanding of the positive effects of yoga as well as an overall sense of accomplishment and well-being.
Full registrations are given priority. Secure your enrollment with a $25 non-refundable deposit, balance due Oct 7. Tuition is $200 ( $5 discount with cash or check) and is non-transferable. No refunds for cancellations after Oct. 17th.
