Carolyn Belko Workshop March 1-3, 2019

From the body to Embodiment

Did you ever contemplate the incredible feeling of freedom and expansiveness yoga brings to you?  Using the body as an instrument of being in an asana brings us beyond that very body. In this workshop, we will use asana and pranayama to experience ourselves beyond the container of the body – the embodiment.

“The sky is finite as well as infinite. None can touch it, yet we are in contact with it every moment of our lives. Similarly, you and I have to use finite means – body, mind, intelligence and consciousness – to reach the infinite seat of the soul which is the mother of all these things.”
 – B.K.S.Iyengar from Tree of Yoga

Carolyn Belko is a devoted pupil of B. K .S. Iyengar. With his blessings she opened the Iyengar Yoga Center Encinitas, near San Diego California in 2003. Carolyn has been to RIMYI to study at the source regularly, and received Senior Int. III Certification from Guruji himself. Immersion in the study and art of yoga began for her at the Centre de Yoga Iyengar de Paris, France, where she trained with Faeq Biria, and started teaching. A leader in the community, Carolyn is one of few to conduct Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics classes. She serves as a volunteer assessor for certification of Iyengar Yoga Teachers across the nation.

An Iyengar Yoga workshop offers the conditions to have a consolidated learning experience of Yoga. Each session builds on what was learned prior with central themes or actions threading and repeating through the various poses.  Because the amount of time practicing over the weekend is longer than normal, everyone’s body has a much greater opportunity to open and explore each pose more deeply. Intentional, skillful sequencing of the poses creates an opportunity for real understanding of the positive effects of yoga as well as an overall sense of accomplishment and well-being.

Carolyn shares yoga succinctly and with enthusiasm. Her application of the art of sequencing coupled with devotion guides students on a steady path. The clarity of the practical philosophy of Iyengar Yoga shines through her classes. We welcome all who want to join us at this multilevel workshop.
