Robyn Castano

I began practicing yoga in 1995 hoping to experience some relief from chronic neck pain and a stressful work life. I studied with Iyengar teachers in San Francisco and knew I had found my way to a lifetime practice. Becoming aware of how much my home practice helped me to heal through injuries and surgery, I realized that, as a teacher,my love for yoga could be shared with others interested in improving and maintaining maximum well-being.
I became a registered teacher (COCC teacher training program) and a member of Yoga Alliance in 2008 at age 63. It was at that time I began studying with Nadine Sims, having recently moved to Bend from San Francisco. I felt I was ‘returning home’ to a method of yoga that I loved and respected. Nadine accepted me as a student teacher in February of 2009. Since then, my own practice has blossomed and after months of regular practice, my chronic neck pain has been relieved.
I attended school in Connecticut: B.A. in Sociology and M.A. in Education. My career path zig-zagged, from teaching elementary school in Connecticut, to owning my own business for nearly 20 years in San Francisco.
I enjoy reading, hiking with my dog (Cricket), kayaking and Nordic skiing. I have volunteered with Zen Hospice and Project Read in San Francisco, and in Bend with the SMART Reading Program, OSU Family Food Education Program and Head Start; as well as spending time visiting and assisting residents at a local retirement home.
